The singer-rapper Aaron Carter, who started as a kid performer and had successful records starting in his teen years, was discovered dead on Saturday at his Southern California home. He was 34.

In 1997, the same year his gold-certified debut album of the same name was released, Aaron Carter opened for the Backstreet Boys tour. With the release of his sophomore album, “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),” in 2000, which featured the smash singles “I Want Candy” and the album’s title, he attained triple-platinum status. Disney and Nickelodeon regularly aired their videos.

Through his participation in TV programs like “Lizzie McGuire,” Carter acquired acting experience. In 2006, he appeared in the E! unscripted series “House of Carters” with his brother Nick and his siblings B.J., Aaron, Leslie, and Angel Carter.

Carter made his Broadway debut in “Who in Seussical the Musical” in 2001 as JoJo. He participated in “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC in 2009, where he and his partner Karina Smirnoff came in fifth. In 2012, he was a guest on the Food Network cooking competition “Rachel vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off.”

“LOVE,” Carter’s fifth and last studio album, was made available in 2018.
